Santa Fe, NM - Global Green Indigenous Film Festival can now proudly state that it is officially organized with the support of the Cultural Sector of UNESCO.

UNESCO is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. It was established as an agency of the United Nations in 1945 with the stated purpose "to contribute to peace and security by promoting collaboration among nations through education, science and culture." UNESCO has 193 Member States and is headquartered in Paris, France, with offices across the globe.

In a letter to Festival organizers, Assistant Director-General for Culture Francoise Riviere stated: "This event, which will offer an excellent opportunity to indigenous filmmakers from various countries to present their work and films and express their ideas on environmental issues, is fully consistent with UNESCO's mandate to promote cultural diversity and dialogue through artistic expressions."

Dr. Veronica Tiller, author of "Tiller's Guide to Indian Country" and a member of the Festival organizing team, stated today: "It is an immense honor to be accorded the patronage of UNESCO. This truly establishes the Global Green Indigenous Film Festival as a cultural event of international reach and stature."

UNESCO is the latest addition to an already impressive roster of Festival partners and supporters. The Festival is being hosted by National Tribal Environmental Council. Co-sponsors of the film festival are the NM Tourism Department and the Jicarilla Apache Nation, in partnership with the National Geographic All Roads Film Project, NM Department of Cultural Affairs, City of Santa Fe, Institute of American Indian Arts and NM Film Museum. Tantoo Cardinal, widely recognized as being the most well-known Aboriginal actress in the world today, will be the celebrity guest.
